Water Aerobics

There are 400 good reasons to dive into water aerobics:

Four hundred is the average number of calories burned in an hour in a water aerobics session. And while the exercise is great for burning calories and increasing muscle strength and aerobic conditioning, it’s also easy on joints.

That’s because bodies are 90% lighter in water:

A 150-pound person weighs only 15 pounds in water. Naturally, this makes water aerobics ideal for pregnant women, people with joint, back or foot problems, and people who are obese or who have other injuries.  But that doesn’t make it a “light weight” workout.  While your body feels lighter, depending on the speed of your movements, the resistance of water is between 4 and 42 times greater than air. And, it’s easy to add even more intensity by increasing upper and lower body movements.

Pump up your circulation:

Water aerobics is an easy activity on your heart, too. The hydrostatic pressure of the water helps your heart circulate blood more efficiently. During deep water exercise, your heart rate is lowered an estimated 10 to 15 beats per minute compared to the rate for the same amount of effort expended on solid ground.

Low impact, lower heart rate — water aerobics are low stress in every way. Classes are friendly and options are designed for maximum comfort and effectiveness. Deep-water aerobics offers the most benefit for participants with knee, joint or foot problems, while those who prefer their feet on the floor will enjoy our shallow-water classes.
