Pryor Main Street Program

Vital signs: A Downtown revived.

Jumpstarting the heart of the city: That was the goal of Pryor Creek residents and leaders several years ago when they made the decision to become an Oklahoma Main Street community. These visionary citizens understood that Pryor Creek’s Downtown is the heart of the city, and for robust economic health and vibrant community prosperity, new life needed to be pumped into it, with new commitments and energy.

Today, the results are being seen—and enjoyed—throughout the area. Thanks to Fresh Paint Day, faded buildings became bright and beautiful again, and the Allred Theatre moved one step closer to assuming its place as the centerpiece and crowning glory of a rejuvenated Downtown.

More than pretty facades.

Of course, Pryor Main Street means much more than outer beauty and inviting facades. Since its establishment in Oklahoma 25 years ago, the Main Street program has brought a holistic approach to downtown revitalizations, combining historic preservation with economic invigoration. The program goes deep and broad, with a trade-marked four-point approach of organization, promotion, design and restructuring. Pryor Main Street brings together people and commerce; it preserves and enriches historic character and community. Events spearheaded by the association like Pryor Main Street Christmas Chili Festival and Kick Off of Google WiFi Downtown in 2013 -- have began attracting demographically diverse crowds.

Community-driven for community self-reliance.

Pryor Creek Main Street helps the community at large leverage one of the city’s most unique and attractive assets, empowering both people and business. Funded partly by the city’s Hotel/Motel Tax, the program covers a generous geographic area starting at the corner U.S. Highway 69 and State Highway 20.
